The primary goal of the Cloverbuds program (youth ages 5-8) is to promote children's healthy development - mentally, physically, socially and emotionally. Cloverbuds also encourages creativity and learning through play. The 4 -H Cloverbud program provides an excellent opportunity for youth to reach their highest potential because of experiences and exposure.
There has been a large increase in interest in 4-H for youth ages 5-8 in Caldwell County the past several years. A volunteer was secured and a Cloverbud Club was started in 2023 to offer younger youth opportunities to learn about 4-H and develop essential life skills. The met monthly and focused on activities that were fun, activity focused, noncompetitive, leader directed and success oriented.
There were seventeen members that attended meetings monthly along with a parent or guardian. Parents noted that “their child looks forward to Cloverbuds and always learned something new.” Another stated that “participating in Cloverbuds makes them feel special because they have they have their own 4-H club.”
Members of the Clovebud Club have had an opportunity to learn some life skills in a hands-on learning environment. They have also been introduced to new 4-H opportunities like Cloverbud Camp and fair exhibits and have been able to see what 4-H has to offer. An end of year evaluation stated that 89% of the youth would continue being involved in 4-H when they become 9.
