Outcome: Initial Outcome
The winter of 2017-18 was wet and warm, leading to extensive pugging and muddy conditions in horse paddocks on Kentucky farms. In response to this problem, a forage demonstration was implemented on the Knapper Farm in Mercer County. Perennial ryegrass was overseeded into muddy horse pastures during the first week of April 2018 at a seeding rate of 50 lb/A (double normal pasture seeding rate). At least one area will be fenced off to allow better establishment and to be able to compare with paddock areas where horses were allowed to remain. This demonstration will be part of the UK Equine Pastures Please! field day in the fall of 2018.
