Farm to Floor Project
Author: Robert Pearce
Planning Unit: Plant and Soil Sciences
Major Program: Hemp
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
In 2022 we grew a one-acre plot of fiber hemp on the MGCAFE North Farm that was cut, baled and delivered to Hempwood in Murray Kentucky. Hempwood processed the hemp fiber into a hardwood-like flooring. In February of 2024 this flooring was installed in the Plant and Soil Sciences Field Lab at the North Farm Complex. We worked with the MGCAFE Ag-Communications group to promote this project: https://youtu.be/HPS98DNZrtQ. This project demonstrated the potential for fiber hemp in Kentucky and highlighted a Kentucky-based hemp company.
