According to Kentucky Cattleman’s Association, Kentucky is the largest cattle producding state east of the Mississippi River and is home to over 859,000 head of cattle and ranks 5th nationally in number of farms. Due to the number of cattle farmers within Scott County, the Scott County Extension office helped organize a Beef Field Day for community members and farmers. On Tuesday July 9th, 2024, I was able to help run and attend a local Scott County Beef Field Day. The Field Day was run by Kevin Laurent, Scott County Extension and volunteer helpers. This field day consisted of a dinner, community gathering and educational session to become BQCA Chute Side certified and CIAP eligible. First, dinner was served and cooked by the Scott County Extension Office. Around 40 community members came to the field day and learned about chute side safety and education. Each community member was able to complete the BQCA Chute Side test to become certified. This certification helps community members and farmers apply for farm loans and other things to help support their farm. By putting on this beef field day many community members and farmers were able to test to get the BQCA chute side certification. Results of the passing rate for the certification are still unknown as they are being evaluated.
