One of the longest running traditions with Kentucky 4-H is its camping program. Kentucky 4-H offers several overnight camping experiences for youth spread across four campsites. Many youth, and their families, are searching for interactive learning opportunities during the summer months, and 4-H Camp provides to those needs and wants. While at camp, youth participate in various classes which include fishing, swimming, riflery, archery, canoeing, paddle boating, zip lines, nature classes and a multitude of craft classes.
In mid-June, Bell County participated in the annual 4-H Camp at JM Feltner Camp in London, KY. Bell County had 71 individuals that attended, making 2023 the third highest attendance year in history for the county. The participants at camp enjoy the experience and they look forward to attending the next year. With youth, 92% of campers and teens attended last year. Our volunteers also believe strongly in giving back to future generations, as we had 72% of our adults return from the previous camping season.
4-H Camp is full of excitement, energy, learning, making lifelong friendships and taking accountability of personal actions. Upon arriving home, most campers are physically tired, but a poll stated that over 70% of them are wanting to return to 4-H Camp next week. This is a true testament to the hard work of many which include, camp staff, adult and teen volunteers, program assistants and 4-H agents.
