It is a common complaint amongst farmers that grant and cost-share programs are too confusing to apply for. There are many different opportunities available to farmers that they are not even aware of. The concept for the Henry County Ag Funding Workshop was created by Kendall Bowman, Owen County ANR Agent. The program was tweaked to better serve farmers in Henry. To attract more people, the event was aligned with the release of CAIP Applications and CAIP Informational Session. Additionally, the program was held on a Saturday morning, so that farmers with off-farm jobs could have more time to attend. The program was held at Henry County High School to accommodate more people. There were 14 organizations either tabling, speaking, or both at the event. In attendance were: NRCS, Henry County Conservation District, Farm Service Agency, United Citizens, Farm Credit, Kentucky State University, Henry County Cattlemen’s, KY Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development, Henry County Farm Bureau, The Berry Center, The Office of the State Vet, and Kentucky Agriculture Development Fund. The morning started with a light breakfast and a presentation from the Henry County ANR Agent about the CAIP Program. The following sessions were presentations from FSA, NRCS, Henry County Conservation District, KSU, KDA, Kentucky Office of Ag Policy and Farm Credit about the programs they offer. The Henry ANR agent created a booklet containing the contact information and general summary of each organization. A lot of attendees appreciated the booklets, with several using the booklet for a reference weeks after the program. At the conclusion of the presentations, the participants then went out to the hallway to meet with the other organizations. Many participants obtained their premises ID through the State Office of the State Vet. 61 people signed in for the event, but an estimated 85 were in attendance. 25 females and 36 males signed in. Many participants approached the ANR Agent following the event with positive comments. Multiple other clientele had reached out with high interest, but could not attend due to scheduling conflicts. The program was very successful and will be held again in the following years.
