The Bourbon County Extension Service continues to be a strong source of support for local communities, offering a wealth of educational resources through diverse outreach programs. This past year, the Horticulture program demonstrated a strong commitment to direct, hands-on learning by providing over 260 personalized consultations and individual meetings.
These sessions catered to a variety of needs and learning styles. Residents received one-on-one guidance through phone calls, emails, office visits, Zoom meetings, and on-site consultations. Whether a single session or a multi-part series, each interaction was tailored to the specific situation of the resident.
The Extension Service's vast network of resources proved invaluable. Specialists on campus provided in-depth expertise, while plant and disease labs offered advanced diagnostics. This combined knowledge base empowered the Horticulture program to tackle a wide range of issues, from commercial fruit production to maintaining a healthy home lawn. From vegetables to landscapes, participants gained valuable insights on everything from proper care to pest identification. Notably, over 150 different pests – insects, weeds, and diseases – were addressed during these consultations.
By providing personalized support and leveraging the strength of the Extension Service network, the Bourbon County Horticulture program is helping residents cultivate thriving gardens, landscapes, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
