The success of many 4-H programs is a direct result of the leadership that guides them. The Caldwell County 4-H Shooting Sports program is a prime example. Leaders of this program have dedicated many hours of instruction to the youth and financial support through fundraising. Club members practice weekly throughout the year focusing on honing their skills. Many of the club members compete in local contest throughout the spring and summer to help them prepare for the State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest held in September. There were fifteen sharpshooters that competed at the state contest in 2023. Both the division 1, 9-11 year old and 12-14 year old teams placed first at the state contest in shotgun.
The Caldwell County Shooting Sports program has always been an esteemed program. Growth of the program has brought parents together for the good of the group. Last year alone, they raised over $10,000 through fundraisers and donations. These donations gave youth opportunities to practice more and purchase supplies needed to help them succeed. Due to the growth of the county shooting sports program more volunteers were needed. Therefore, three adult leaders and two teen leaders were certified in April 2024.
