Cardio Drumming

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The problem

Webster County has one fitness center, and the price of a monthly membership is $33 per month. There are people who would like to be active but aren't sure how, and some are elderly and they are not able to do high impact exercises.

The educational program response

I looked into and purchased 20 cardio drumming sets to start out with. I did a class with a group of children and a group of retired teachers (all Senior citizens) to see what the interest would be like, if any. Both groups seemed to enjoy the program and the Senior group asked if I would be offering the program at the office or if they could borrow the equipment. I told them I would plan on getting some classes together at the office in our meeting room because it is a central location in the county and there isn't really anywhere else to host it.

I planned for a month of cardio drumming classes one day a week at 10:30am and 5:30 pm. The initial response from the advertisement was overwhelming. We had several people sign up for one session to try it out and several go ahead and sign up for the entire month. I told participants that we would be watching videos of certified Cardio Drumming coaches initially and then if I felt that we should proceed with offering a more regular program that I would get certified to coach it.

The participants/target audience

The program is open to people of all ages. Both test groups enjoyed it but I believe the seniors got more out of it because they felt they were able to really be active while having fun.

Program impact or participant response.

In addition to the first two groups who enjoyed the program, the groups in the one month program have given excellent feedback. They enjoy the low impact nature of cardio drumming, but it is upbeat and they have fun while exercising.
