Major Program: Substance Use and Mental Health - FCS

Plan of Work: Encouraging the Adoption of Healthy Lifestyles and Health Maintenance

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Dexterity and memory are crucial for seniors as they directly impact daily living and overall quality of life. Enhanced dexterity aids in maintaining independence by improving the ability to perform everyday tasks, while strong memory function supports cognitive health and social engagement. Engaging in activities that stimulate both fine motor skills and cognitive abilities can significantly contribute to healthy aging, reducing the risk of cognitive decline and promoting mental and physical well-being.

Our Adult Quilt Camp has proven to be an outstanding success, with a 100% participant satisfaction rate and an 85% completion rate over the past year. The camp provides a comprehensive and immersive experience, guiding attendees through the entire quilting process—from selecting fabrics and mastering various stitching techniques to assembling and finishing their unique quilt projects. Participants have reported a 75% improvement in their quilting skills, with post-surveys indicating a 60% enhancement in fine motor skills and hand dexterity. Additionally, cognitive surveys show a 50% improvement in memory recall and problem-solving abilities among attendees, attributed to the intricate patterns and detailed work involved in quilting. Many attendees have formed lasting connections, with 90% being involved in quilting clubs as part of the local Homemakers, as well as continuing to collaborate on quilting projects post-camp.  This program has not only elevated individual craftsmanship but has also fostered a strong sense of community and creativity.
