Cattle Market Notes Weekly
Cattle Market Notes Weekly is a marketing publication / newsletter that is sent out jointly by Extension Livestock Economists from the University of Kentucky, the University of Arkansas, and Mississippi State University. This publication includes a relatively short article focused on a cattle-related marketing or management topic each week, along with related graphics, price tables, and the most recent drought monitor. James Mitchell, Josh Maples, and I write articles on a rotating basis. Through this collaboration, I write a cattle market article every three weeks, but my clientele receive an article on a weekly basis. Since initially partnering on this project in 2020, the reach of Cattle Market Notes Weekly has grown by leaps and bounds. For a first-order illustration of this reach, from July 2023 to June 2024 the average number of “opens” of the Cattle Market Notes Weekly email exceeded 2,200.
While the direct impact of Cattle Market Notes Weekly is large and reaches many individuals, even more impressive is how much the articles are reprinted by other outlets and publications. For example, the Ohio Beef Newsletter goes out to 5,100 individuals in Ohio and includes almost every article that we write. Greater still, Farm Progress, Beef Magazine, and Feedlot Magazine also pick up most of these articles and publish them in their online issues. While there is no way to know how many people these outlets reach, each would likely be tens, of thousands, of individuals that see this analysis each week.
