Sustainable Housing Initiative: Post-Disaster Recovery
Author: Jeff Fugate
Planning Unit: Community & Economic Development (CEDIK)
Major Program: Community Design/Creative Placemaking
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Informed by a steering committee of County Cooperative Extension Agents and community members, Sustainable Housing Initiative: Post-Disaster Resilience & Recovery for the Commonwealth is currently finalizing a set of instructional posters and fact web content to educate homeowners on best practices regarding sustainable materials, construction methods, energy efficiency, and environmental health pre- and post-disaster.
To compliment the publications, we have constructed demonstration wall sections and mock-ups for public education to supplement a training curriculum for Extension professionals (train-the-trainer) on sustainable housing recovery practices. The display will debut at the 2024 KY State Fair. We anticipate establishing a permanent home for the mock-ups and sustainable materials library in conjunction with Cooperative Extension.
