Plan of Work: Youth and Adults Overcome Life Situations by Acquiring Life Skills

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

During the spring 2024 semester, the local Campbellsville Homeschool Co-op youth received a delicious taste of 4-H. Fourteen youth participated in the 4-H lead class at the Co-op held at the Campbellsville Baptist Church entitled “Snack Attack.” During the seven, one-hour classes, the youth learned a new SNAP-ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipe while learning kitchen and life skills. Some of the recipes the youth prepared in the class included Can Opener Salsa, Super Snack Mix, Apple Nachos, and English Muffin Pizzas. The class participants’ favorite recipe they prepared was the Can Opener Salsa. 100% of the youth felt they could prepare it at home themselves.

During the semester, youth were given a recipe sheet for each recipe they prepared. They would put their recipe in a folder at the end of each class and folders were collected. At the last class, the students were allowed to take home their Snack Attach Cookbooks.

As a result of this class 100% of the youth reported that they gained confidence in the kitchen. Only three of the fourteen youth in the class had 4-H experience before this program.
