When the LaRue County Fiscal Court allocated funds in their 2024 budget for community organizations to apply it towards a community betterment project to benefit the local area, the LaRue County Extension Homemakers got to work. Starting with a generous sponsorship of $1000 from a local bank, the Homemakers continued to raise over $10,000 to add to the matching grant awarded by Fiscal Court. The funds were utilized to complete upgrades to the Floral Hall Exhibit Buiding at the LaRue County Fairgrounds including installation of a new roof, new windows and doors for the Floral Hall.
The Homemakers organization relied heavily on donations and fundraisers to gain the funds necessary including a silent auction and proceeds from the groups first-ever Spring Bazaar. Many donors contributed to the groups effort often in memory of or in honor of someone.
"Projects like this one that improve fairground buildings instill a greater sense of pride in our community," the organizations application said. LaRue County Extension Homemaker Treasurer added that the project could generate renewed interestin the fairgrounds and, in turn, its preservation and improvement.
