Bourbon County Blooms: Horticulture Program Cultivates Local Food Production Success
The Bourbon County Horticulture program is pleased to announce a flourishing season of local food production! This year's program focused on empowering residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables, with impressive results.
Planting the Seeds of Knowledge:
- Over 150 Direct Questions Answered: Residents across Bourbon County didn't hesitate to reach out! Our program fielded inquiries on a variety of topics, from basic planting techniques to specific crop selection for the area.
- Diagnosing and Treating Garden Ailments: Over 80 residents brought in diseased plants or insect-ravaged specimens. Our horticulture experts identified the problems and provided effective control recommendations, ensuring a healthy harvest.
Harvesting Success:
- Spreading the Seed of Gardening: 120 residents participated in our outreach events, receiving valuable gardening information and free seed packets. This initiative aimed to remove barriers to entry and encourage residents to cultivate their own food sources.
- Blossoming Improvements: The program's impact is evident! No fewer than 60 residents reported significant improvements to their home gardens after receiving guidance from the Bourbon County Horticulture program. This translates to increased access to fresh, healthy, and local produce for these families.
The Kentucky Cooperative Service Bourbon County Horticulture program is thrilled to witness the success of this season's local food production efforts. By providing residents with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive, we are fostering a more sustainable and food-secure community. We look forward to cultivating even greater results next year!
