Knott county 4-H had 16 attendees for the 100th annual Kentucky 4- H Teen Conference. The teens in attendance are also part of our ongoing teen 4-H leadership and service club. These youth are involved in many service-learning projects and mentoring opportunities throughout the year. Teen conference serves as their culminating state level event.
Our local 4-H Council takes pride in supporting our youth in all their events when possible. Participation for our youth was 100% sponsored by local donations. The council has managed to make this opportunity to all interested participants for the past 3 summers through full scholarships. Community support for our 4-H programs is directly relational to our ability to offer the opportunities for our youth, in a county considered 100% free and reduced lunches.
Teen conference helps youth develop a familiarity with college life on campus. The objectives for teen conference further align with our county programming needs, which continue to improve their communication skills, teamwork, leadership and inclusivity experiences. Through participation in mock majors and minors’ youth further their knowledge in our core content areas of interest. Youth also participate in community service projects throughout the surrounding area learning about ongoing community outreach efforts in the Fayette County area.
