Major Program: Science, Engineering, and Technology

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

A few years ago the Hopkins County 4-H Council invested money and resources into a Esports 4-H Club. The council along with myself saw this as a way to teach youth coding, communcation, and teamwork skills. The club has had steady growth and vaulable skills are being taught. In late Fall of 2023, I was approached by our state 4-H STEM specialist, Torey Earls, on partnering with Apple. Through this partnership, my community recived an investment of over $30,000 woth of ipads, apple pencils, cases, and a charging cart. This will allow for not only growth with the Esports program, but also allows us to offer more STEM projects and clubs. The plan as of now is to offer coding 4-H lesson in the schools and hvaing a new coding club that meets at our Extension Office. Of course we will still have our Esports club as well.

Being able to teach youth coding skills will help them develope into better leaders in the world. Technology seems to be booming at the moment and having the partnership with Apple will allow them to be successful as they develop more skills.
