Major Program: Local Food Systems

Plan of Work: Nutrition and Food Matters And Healthy Family (Community) through Healthy Individuals

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The Kentucky Double Dollars program is a supplemental program for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program that is offered through the Ky Department of Ag.  Any senior that receives the $50 voucher card for the SFMNP program is entitled to receive another $50 from the Double Dollars program.  The success of the SFMNP program in Boyd County is very successful and this past year the Double Dollars program saw an increase in redemption rates with a total redemption rate of 97%.  The Community Farm Alliance sponsors this program with the help of  funding sponsors.  Many of the seniors that are receiving the SFMNP vouchers have indicated how beneficial they are to the support of their family and with helping offset their grocery bills.  The extra money they can receive with the Double Dollars program has only helped to increase those benefits and many of the seniors who are helping to raise their grandchildren or support their extended family have witnessed to our local farmers that they are so thankful for these extra dollars and their have been times that those benefits have kept their family from having to ration food.
