Small Ruminant Meeting

Planning Unit: Henderson County CES
Major Program: Small Ruminants (includes sheep, goats) and Exotic animals
Plan of Work: Agricultural Practices
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
There are many small ruminant producers in Henderson County and a lot of interest to learn more in this area. I decided to have a small ruminant meeting with a marketing specialist, small ruminant veterinarian and a UK specialist to discuss hoof care. There was positive feedback on this. Many that attended said that they enjoyed the meeting and found new contacts for any questions that they may have for small ruminants. One of the struggles that we face in our area is a shortage of veterinarians. Dr. Beth Johnson with Kentucky Department of Agriculture had a lot of good information on vet related care and also gave out her contact Information to all the participants which was very helpful for them in case they have any questions. The participants were mostly adults, although some kids that are in the 4-H livestock club attended also. They all asked a lot of questions relating to their small ruminant operations.
