Planning Unit: Ballard County CES
Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy
Plan of Work: Farm Bill Producer and Landowner Education
Outcome: Initial Outcome
With the extension of the current Farm Bill into the 2024 growing season, producers still needed education and information on which election would be best for their farm in the current growing season. Tom Miller, Ballard County Extension Agent for ANR developed several options for growers and landowners. With FSA personnel discouraged from giving advice, it is a great opportunity for extension to fill the void. Several newsletter articles and updates were produced. A letter with the most current projections was distributed to local FSA offices to hand to participants and it was distributed to other county extension agents in the area to use in their programming. Finally, a newspaper article was distributed to the Advance Yeoman, local paper and West KY News that became available to producers across west KY.
With the prospect of a new farmbill in the future, education will be imperative. This agent along with help from Dr. Grant Gardener, new Ag Economics Specialist from Lexington, will continue to provide up to date information to program participants especially in Ballard County but also across Kentucky.
