The Fulton County Agricultural and Natural Resources Agent has worked with the Fulton County Long-term Recovery Committee in assisting the families of the Cayce Community in rebuilding their homes that were damaged or destroyed by the December 10th, 2021 tornado.  The Fulton County Long Term Recovery Committee as work with numerous vendors, organizations, churches, and charities.  Seven homes had to be completely rebuilt, 4 modular homes brought in, along with 50 house repaired.

 

Extension has assisted with the projects since 2021 by helping with distributing trees, educational programming for preparedness, weather radios, getting information to the public on storm shelter registration, and other educational materials.  The Cayce community was home about roughly 100 individuals, and through the efforts of the committee has been able to keep most of the residents either in their homes or able to return to their properties once repair or rebuilding has been completed.  The last home that needed to be rebuilt will be completed by the first of July 2024 weather permitting.

 

This committee and partnership will continue after the project is completed as there will always be another weather event to cause damage to the county.  The committee has already given assistance to families impacted do to tornados in both Fulton City and Hickman over the last two years and is looking a other programs to aid the residents of Fulton County be more prepared for future natural disasters.
