The problem Learn the cultural history and origins of the craft. Inspire global exploration. Develop fine motor skills in carving and painting. Increase cultural awareness, recycling, and creativity. Learning experience with family members to promote togetherness and bonding.
The educational program response Introduce youth to some simple cultural traditional crafts/recipes from around the world. Journey around the continents, learning how to make simple crafts/recipes and having fun creating. Many members in our community will more than likely never visit outside the US. This program allowed participants to "get a glimpse" of how others in different countries/cultures live, what they eat, the crafts they do etc. The students gained hands-on experience while creating potato art, dot paintings, healthy bruschetta, french crepes, origami and taco seasonings.
The participants/target audience Edmonson County families and children that attend the Edmonson County Public Library Summer Reading Program

Program impact or participant response. This event was a tremendous success. The participants traveled to Japan, Mexico, France, Italy, Germany and Australia eating and crafting while learning" tid bits" of information about the culture of each country. The students were sent home with a packet with recipes and other interesting and informative information and activities they could do at home with siblings or family members.
