Drop It Like It's Hot

     According to the CDC Kentucky is one of the 22 states that have an adult obesity rate at or above 35%. To focus on making healthier lifestyle choices and encourage people to lose weight, FCS Agent, Extension Program Assistant and Senior SNAP ED Assistant conducted the program Drop It Like It’s Hot for 10 weeks via hybrid method.

     The program had 14 participants that attended the program and received informational lessons from the University of Kentucky on portion control, how to eat healthy when dining out, the importance of physical activity and getting more fruits and vegetables in their diet.  The class also received SNAP ED lessons, healthy choices for everybody to help meet their goals. Individuals kept up with their weight weekly by weighing themselves and recording it on their goal sheet. The group lost a total of 22 lbs.

Based on post evaluations completed:

* 90% increased their daily intake of fruit and vegetables.

* 100% of participants chose to eat more meals at home verses eating out.

 * 85% practiced and added more steps into their daily routine.

One participant stated that “My cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure numbers have improved and lowered due to my participation in this program.”
