Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Develop Individuals for Volunteer Roles

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Grant County is a clean county. Grant County has a long-standing state and county funded program that allows non-profit organizations to clean up local roads and earn money through Grant County Solid Waste Management.  Our Grant County Homemakers along with the Family and Consumer Science Agent, participated in the fundraising program by picking up garbage along five miles of Baton Rouge Road, the road in which the extension office is located. There were 21 people in attendance including 9 youth which lead to a great time!  Doing this fundraiser as a group was not only a way to earn money, but it also helps build friendships and character.  This program teaches the younger generation about not only the importance of protecting the environment but also the importance of working toward a common goal as they work beside people of all ages.  It also gives the older generation the opportunity to work with youth and to develop new friendships and mentorship opportunities. The Homemakers were able to earn $500 which will go back into the community in the form of the Homemakers College Scholarship to serve as an investment in the future of the county’s youth.
