Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Supporting our troops is a way to give back to the ones that are willing to protect us.

Six years ago a Metcalfe County 4-Her started the 4-H Project Patriot Community Service project as a way to show appreciation to soldiers serving overseas during the holidays.   He planned, executed, and supervised all aspects of this 4-H Community Service Project that has collected various types of food, toiletries and monetary donations.   He has partnered with the Military Missions Inc. to deliver the supplies overseas to soldiers.  The youth states “4-H has given me so many opportunities including showing me the importance of giving back to others.  It has also taught me that hard work and determination can lead to accomplishing goals.”   As of today he has worked with 4-H members, community organizations, churches, individuals, businesses and family members to send over 648 boxes of personal care packages valued at over $34,000 to soldiers serving overseas.

A solider says “It means a lot for someone to give back to us. We greatly appreciate the supplies.”
