Major Program: Grains
Plan of Work: Agriculture & Environment Education for Youth
Outcome: Initial Outcome
As we have fewer people involved in the agriculture industry and in food production it becomes increasingly more important to educate people, including youth, about where their food, fiber, fuel and other products we depend on farmers for comes from. For a number of years now the ANR agent has partnered with the 4-H agent, other extension staff to have school enrichment days for various grade levels. Each day has a different theme and central focus. This year we had 3rd grade Ag Day, 4th grade Healthy Kids Day, 5th grade Earth Day, and 6th grade Safety Day. The ANR agent taught sessions at each of these days, except for Safety Day. However, for Safety Day the ANR agent did more of the overall event coordination. In total, 776 youth were reached through these programs. Partners for these days included Mercer County Schools, Burgin Independent School, Family Resource Youth Service Centers, Mercer Area Family Wellness Program, and Mercer County Health Department among others.
