Planning Unit: Bracken County CES

Major Program: Agriculture and Extension Leadership Development

Plan of Work: Empower Community Leaders

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The challenge of embracing best management practices in farming often boils down to the significant cost associated with acquiring specialized equipment for each practice. Recognizing this obstacle, the Agricultural Advancement Council over time has purchased and obtained different pieces of specialized equipment to better serve our local producers. The Agricultural Advancement Council and Bracken County Extension Office hosted three transformative training sessions focused on the shared-use equipment. This initiative was meticulously crafted with the goal of helping local farmers to overcome financial barriers and embrace efficient practices, by providing easy access to specialized farm equipment at reasonable rates.

The event generated a positive response from the local agricultural community, with 22 producers and farmers alike expressing enthusiasm for the opportunities presented. Through the interactive training and hands-on demonstrations for each piece of equipment attendees gained valuable insights into the practical application of shared-use equipment and its potential to advance their farming practices. After, participants left the training sessions not only informed but certified to rent out the different pieces of equipment. As a result, the equipment has become more utilized and has over eight new users signed up for the following season. This is all possible because the Agricultural Advancement Council remains committed to supporting and uplifting the farming community.
