Planning Unit: Union County CES
Major Program: Agriculture & Natural Resources
Plan of Work: Ag in the Classroom
Outcome: Initial Outcome
The problem: Ag in the classroom is help the younger students understand about Ag/hort within the community and across the state.
The educational program response: I went to the local pre-k school to talk about flowers and how they help our environment. Students then created a snack flower to eat where they put different vegetables/fruits on a sheet to make a flower. After that the students then got a ice cream cone to fill with soil and put flower seeds in to take home and grow them. With using the ice cream cones they will go straight into the ground to grow, students also took home any extra seeds from their packet to grow or to just have for parents to know what will be growing.
The participants/target audience: Pre-k schools\ at Union County HS (100 students total)
Other partners (if applicable)
Program impact or participant response. The students loved doing this project as it was hands on for this activity but also learn about flowers and colors of the fruit and vegetables and trying new foods that some may not get to have normally. The teachers also liked that this was a hands on project and learning about flowers and seeing the kids work on their motor skills.
