Weed management issues in pastures, hay fields, and other forage crops continue to be an area of importance to livestock producers. To meet these needs newsletter articles and publications have been developed and presentations made at local and state-wide meetings and field days including sessions for Kentucky Cattlemen's Associations, area Hay Production Schools, KY Farm Bureau annual meeting, and KY Alfalfa Conference. Extension publications such as “Broadleaf Weeds of Kentucky Pasture” (AGR-207), “Weed Management in Grass Pastures, Hayfields, and Other Farmstead Sites” (AGR-172), and “Weed Control in Alfalfa and Other Forage Legume Crops (AGR-148) continue to be an important sources of weed control information used by Agriculture and Natural Resource agents and livestock producers. A publication on “Practicing Good Stewardship When Applying Herbicides for Pasture Weed Control” (AGR-219) was also developed to promote proper use and good stewardship with use of herbicide options. A significant number or requests received each year for weed identification and control come from pastures and other forage production areas.
