The problem, Seniors and the elderly population are a vulnerable audience that require physical activity and optimal nutrition for a continued well rounded healthy life. Statistically speaking, according to the CDC, the percentage of noninstitutionalized persons aged 65 and older in fair or poor health is 23.5% (2022). Due to this, the educational program response was Menifee County Family Consumer Science Agent and Menifee County Senior Snap Ed/NEP Assistant teamed up to Partner with The Gateway Area Development District and to give important nutrition knowledge, materials, and health facility contact information at the Spring Fling Event in Morehead KY. Our efforts allowed seniors to discover the power of nutrition, healthy living, and simple nutritious recipes on a budget. The participants/target audience are Menifee County Senior Citizens that participate in attending the Gateway Area Development District Senior Citizen Center in downtown Frenchburg, the facility is referred to as Trimble Place. Other partners include Menifee County Seniors Citizen Director. The impact included reaching over 350 seniors including Menifee County and surrounding Counties within the District. These seniors are equipp with access to nutrition information, budget friendly healthy recipes, and contact information for diabetes education and prevention, as well as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Spreading this valuable knowledge is one step closer to giving someone a chance at a better quality of life.
