Kentucky holds one of the highest rates of children in the care of grandparents and other relatives (around 6%). In Jackson County, there are many children being raised by related family members that aren't their parents. Families may not understand the resources available to them in their community. A support group for Relatives Raising Relatives was established to provide families in Jackson County a place to meet to get emotional support from other families going through similar experiences as well as connecting them with resources in the community based on their families needs. Our participants are families in Jackson County who are made of relatives raising relatives, both caregivers and children. We have partnered with each public school FRSYC coordinator, Save the Children coordinator, the Partners for Rural Impact at each public school, and with community members such as lawyers and insurance agents. We have been able to impact ten families of five or more members by connecting them with resources in Jackson County such as food and clothing donations, connections with school officials to assist in children's education plans, legal help with guardianship, and aid in education of insurance benefits.
