Plan of Work: Develop Individuals for Volunteer Roles
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Volunteers are an integral part of every 4-H program. Monroe County 4-H has many volunteers who give countless hours for the youth and the program. To gain a greater understanding of the Kentucky Extension ‘s volunteer program, I enrolled in Volunteer Administration Academy. As part of the class, I became more aware of the vast opportunities available at the Kentucky Volunteer Forum.
With the assistance of a certified livestock volunteer, who has attended KVF many times, the recruiting process began for 2024 KVF. Thanks to the efforts of our KVF alumna and the Monroe County 4-H Council, Monroe County 4-H had a record number of volunteers attending this years event. A total of five adult volunteers, two teen leaders, the program assistant, and 4-H agent participated in the KVF. Volunteers from the Monroe County 4-H Clubs attended the conference participating in workshops to gain knowledge and improve their leadership skills.
Two teen leaders were able to experience the conference. They attended sessions to gain insight into growing their leadership skills. Not only did they attend sessions, but these youth assisted in presenting a session about the Monroe County Tabletop Farmers Club.
The Lego Club leader and Monroe County 4-H agent presented an interactive session about the Lego Club. Those attending this session were involved in hands-on activities to demonstrate the excitement that everyone can experience from this club. Many volunteers from across the state, as well as volunteers from other states in attendance have reached out to gather more information about this club.
100% of the volunteers who attended the conference said they gained knowledge to help them build stronger clubs and become more effective leaders. Also, all attending said they hope to attend the conference in the future. 75% of those attending but not presenting this year, said they would consider presenting at the next KVF.
Volunteers are the backbone of any great 4-H program. Monroe County is no exception, and by attending the 2024 Kentucky Volunteer Forum, the volunteers from Monroe County gained knowledge and experiences that will prove beneficial to the overall 4-H program.
