Success StoryNo-Till Forage Seeder Workshop

No-Till Forage Seeder Workshop

Author: Lyndall Harned

Planning Unit: Boyd County CES

Major Program: Forages

Plan of Work: Forage, Crop and General Agricultural Practices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The number of calls for information and requests to use shared use no-till pasture/hay field seeders to County Extension Offices in our area got agents talking with each other. So, in conjunction with Dr, Jimmy Henning, the agents in Boyd, Carter and Greenup Counties planned and held a workshop on their use, calibration and simple maintenance of no-till seeders.

No advance registration was required, and we thought that we would have about 30-35 attend. A quick head count at the workshop was 98 people. And beyond the number is the fact that the request for use of the seeders has increased significantly among those that attended.

At least some of the counties require that a person be trained in using the seeder before they can check it out for use. This workshop met that requirement, so well over 100 people are now eligible to check-out and correctly use the seeders.

By being trained in the correct use of these machines, the success rate of the individuals using them should increase significantly.
