The Buffalo Trace Area Extension Services and Maysville Community and Technical College partnered to host the annual community event, Farm Family Night. The event is geared to offer educational programs to all facets of the farm family while providing an environment for the entire family. With many topics providing research-based information from the University of Kentucky, local educators offering specialized expertise, vendor network development, and youth educational events participants had the opportunity to a diverse offering of educational classes. The evening offered nearly 30 educational sessions to all segments of the family with roughly 400 participants attending educational sessions at Farm Family Night. Classes were divided into two concurrent sessions with multiple offerings during each session. Participants can attend two classes during the event. Participants gained knowledge about fertilizers, livestock vaccination updates, bees, horticulture, cattle management, forestry, forages, gardening, grafting, food preparation and safety, youth livestock, and health. Sessions were taught by local volunteers, Extension Agents, Extension Specialist, MCTC faculty, and local business owners. Sponsorship by Farm Credit Services, Hinton Mills, Rip’s Farm Center, Meadowview Regional Hospital, and many others provides funding to offer a meal in conjunction with all the other activities. In addition to the educational activities, many businesses and organizations collaborated to host a vendor show as part of the evening offerings as well as donate door prizes. It was estimated over 600 people attend the event in 2024. One participant conveyed appreciation for the event each year and wanted to take more classes offered during the event.
