Plan of Work: Promoting Leadership and Community Development

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In a heartwarming display of community spirit and cultural appreciation, the Greenup County Extension Homemakers held their county-wide council meeting on Wednesday, March 20th, at the Greenup County Extension Office. The gathering was a mix of planning, celebration, and education, showcasing the organization's commitment to local and global community engagement.
Nineteen members attended the council meeting, demonstrating their commitment to community service and development. The Homemakers are spearheading a 4-H Fundraiser, which involves selling seven flavors of chocolate Easter Eggs. The proceeds from this endeavor will help send children to 4-H Camp, ensuring that the benefits of the 4-H program can reach as many local youths as possible.
In addition to this charitable effort, the individual clubs within the County continue to engage with their respective community activities; designed to enrich the local area and its residents. The clubs are also preparing for the upcoming Greenup County Fair.
Following the council meeting, the Homemakers hosted an International Day event focusing on Ireland. This event allowed members to immerse themselves in the rich traditions, history, and landscapes of Ireland without leaving Greenup County. Through a slideshow of Ireland's breathtaking scenery, attendees were treated to the visual splendor of the Emerald Isle, accompanied by the stirring melodies of Irish music.
Adding a personal touch to the event, three members who have visited Ireland shared their firsthand experiences, enriching the presentation with personal anecdotes, memorabilia, and observations. Other members contributed by reporting on various aspects of Irish culture, including its history, foods, and the symbolism of the Irish flag. The highlight for many was the lunch featuring traditional Irish dishes, allowing participants to savor the flavors of Ireland as they celebrated its culture while enjoying the company of fellow members from all the county clubs.
As the Extension Homemakers look forward to their upcoming projects and events, their commitment to community service and cultural education remains strong.
