Young people need to be proficient in financial decision making, which is a necessary life skill as they transition into adulthood
The "It's Your Reality" 4-H Program presents a life skill through a simulation-style program. Participants are immersed in a scenario that includes their career choice, income, and family circumstances. They engage in the simulation by making decisions on purchases, handling utilities and taxes, buying groceries, looking after childcare, and other essential tasks.
Breckinridge County Middle School students in the 8th grade participated in this event.
Partners included local banks in the county, utility companies, local businesses, and other partners.
The students were given a survey at the end of the program. One student said, "I really liked this, it was educational and gives you a taste of what life is really like when you're an adult." Another student said, "This program is really helpful and helped me understand how different choices influence my life and money, as does having kids or being married. I really think anyone that has the opportunity to do this program should, it really helps us get prepared for our future."
