Plan of Work: Crop and Livestock Production, Gardening and Horticulture, and Local Food Systems

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The problem how are producers and clients going to maintain soil health while at the same time think about carbon credits and renewable fuel.

The educational program response one of our young farmers presented a program on soil health and carbon credits using soil practices we are using today. Producers from our county were presented with some other possible solutions without changing current practices. This would allow them to get a carbon credit intensity score and sell their corn to ethanol plants for renewable fuel. Producers had lots of questions and had interest in the process depending on where the corn could be sold in 2025.

The participants/target audience were producers from the county along with a couple of neighboring county producers.

Other partners involved in the meeting were Heuring Crop Insurance providing a meal for those in attendance and catered by Brett Mitchell.

Participant response was well taken with several producers expressing their opinion that this might be the answer for some possible extra income to their farm depending on point of sale of the corn.
