Group Effort on the Wild Side

Planning Unit: Garrard County CES

Major Program: Cook Wild Kentucky

Plan of Work: Healthy Lifestyle and Life Skill Education

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The problem

Garrard County Extension planned a Cook Wild program at the Extension Office. The program is a very labor intensive program and takes many hands to make it successful. Cook Wild entails cooking several different recipes with several different meats, all at the same time. Several people are needed to prepare and cook the different meals at the same time. In the same Kitchen.

The educational program response

All the Agents, SNAP assistant and several volunteers worked together to make the program a success. The Garrard County FCS, ANR and 4-H agent, with the help from the SNAP assistant spent hours planning, gathering supplies and preparing the meal and program for the evening. Help from several volunteers was needed the night of the program to help serve the meal. The program was truly a success because of this group effort.

The participants/target audience

The target audience for the evening was mainly males that enjoyed wild game and trying new flavors of meat. Pulling agents and volunteers together to put on a successful program was also a target.

Other partners (if applicable)

The program would not have been a success without the help of several other partners that help supply the variety of meats.  A local meat processor supplied deer and bear meat while a fellow ANR Extension agent was able to supply the beaver meat.  Two other ANR agents were able to help secure some fish and frog legs for the program.

Program impact or participant response.

This was a huge group effort. The participants that came to sample the different recipes all said they would love to try some of the Cook Wild recipes that were available. But the biggest impact was the public saw how ALL Garrard County Extension agents and volunteers came together to offer a great program that was successful GROUP Effort.
