FCS educators and extension agents address many topics yet struggle to find the time to cover all areas. The Farm and Home Show is an educational, five-minute, show produced by the Warren County Cooperative Extension Service that shares timely topics related to the farm and the home. The Farm and Home Show airs at 5:15 AM and 7:15 AM weekday mornings, Monday through Friday. Co-host, Kristi Shive, Warren County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, highlights Family and Consumer Sciences by covering multidisciplinary topics that relate to home, health, and human life. This multimedia platform is an opportunity for Extension Agents and Specialists to share research-based information from the University of Kentucky. Also, the show provides opportunities for community partners to share expertise and information about local organizations and events.
The target audience for the Farm and Home show is South Central Kentucky. Specifically, the WBKO network encompasses sixteen counties in the southern region of Kentucky with approximately 15,000 households reached per episode. The Warren County Cooperative Extension Service has worked with the Farm and Home Show for over twenty years and is broadcast on the WBKO Television Station – an ABC, CW, and FOX affiliate.
Each segment is worth $3,300 dollars in earned media value, totaling $858,000 annually for the Cooperative Extension Service. Average weekly viewership of the Farm and Home Show is 150,000 households. To date, the Warren County Extension Service has filmed 894 episodes, with Kristi co-hosting the Farm and Home Show since assuming leadership in 2019. Online reach through Facebook and YouTube is an estimated 90,000 views for the past three years. Kristi continues to co-host the show and aims to present timely topics.
