It seems like we are all in a hurry to get out the door in the morning, so for many individuals making your lunch for the day may not fit into their already crunched morning routine. This leads to people turning to fast food for what seems like a quick and cheap lunch option. While it may be quick, it certainly isn’t healthy and it especially isn't cheaper. It’s been estimated that the average American spends approximately $1,200 on fast food annually- so those dollar menu deals certainly add up and can be a burden on the consumer’s wallet.

On March 5, 2018 Lewis County FCS taught a class at Maysville Community and Technical College’s annual Farm Family Night which serves over 1,000 people each year. At this event there are a variety of topics taught, butLewis County FCS was tasked with a class on Make Ahead Meals. This class taught individuals that making lunches for the work week didn’t have to be hard and gave tips on freezing individual portions in advanced and how to safety store food for longer periods of time. A demonstration on meal prep was given that helped participants visually see how 10 minutes on a Sunday could provide them with food for a whole week. After the program was over 76% (13/17) of the class indicated that they would be using the information learned to save money and prepare more meals at home.
