Growers Meeting 2024

Author: Tyler Miller

Planning Unit: Lincoln County CES

Major Program: Horticulture, Commercial

Plan of Work: Agriculture Sustainability and Marketing 2020-24

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Each year I plan and organize a produce production meeting with the local Amish that I work with throughout the year. At this year’s meeting, there were four Extension Specialist that attended the morning session to give updates and information to our local growers. These topics include disease challenges from 2023, cole crop production tips, and fruit production management. I also had educational publications from the university to handout to growers. I talked about how the extension office can help them with their enterprises and the types of services that we provide. Please note this meeting is held at the Amish auction site where there is no electricity. I bring supplies to power a computer and a projector. Each year I bring a projector screen for the specialist and other guest speakers to utilize. With mostly an Amish audience, I talk about how we can make on site visits and provide services at their location. The weather was bad again this year when we held the meeting. This cut back on our attendees, but we still had around 40 people show up and spend their day with us. A warm delicious Amish meal was prepared and enjoyed by all!
