Jr Homemaker

Author: Alex Kelly

Planning Unit: Muhlenberg County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Developing Life Skills

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Junior Homemakers is one of the newest additions to the Muhlenberg County Extension office's roster of clubs, addressing a need for a non-classroom setting where 7th grade to 12th grade can come to learn a diverse range of topics. As the effects of COVID-19 still linger, there's an increased recognition of the importance of cultivating connections, nurturing healthy minds, and facilitating socialization among like-minded individuals, all while learning new, fun skills.

The Junior Homemaker club meetings serve as a hub of learning, covering a spectrum of activities such as needlepoint, baking, table settings, clay projects, and more. Our dedicated volunteers, fueled by a passion for their respective topics, bring their expertise to the group. Notably, we have enlisted the help of Muhlenberg's very own Master Clothing Volunteers, Ruthann Ward and Loretta Grace, offering insights into intricate projects like sashiko embroidery. Additionally, our other enlisted volunteers impart essential lessons on confidence - a crucial attribute for youth as they navigate through life.

Beyond learning new skills, Junior Homemakers is a bridge between generations, challenging the perception that our Homemaker program is exclusively for adults. We aim to showcase its immense value for the youth of our community, emphasizing the life skills that this program provides. Join us in shaping a community where learning, connection, and growth know no age limits.
