Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The Ohio County Cooperative Extension Service hosted a Community Baby Shower for 28 pregnant women and parents of infants up to one year. The Community Baby Shower's goal was to provide families with information on children's health and developmental needs and connect families to appropriate services within the community. Participants visited resource booths and participated in educational sessions led by various community partners on topics such as Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma & Safe Sleep and Car Seat Safety.

When asked what they learned, participants noted increased knowledge through comments such as “how to install a car seat properly,” “not to leave a baby on their belly,” and “multiple community resources I did not know were available previously.” Participants further noted they intended to implement practices such as placing a car seat clip over the chest, not putting anything in the crib/bassinet with their baby, and using identification tags to put on the car seat.  As parents become more aware of how they can help their children grow in every way “from the start,” more children will be school-ready by age five.
