Plan of Work: Developing Youth Into Productive and Contributing Citizens
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Kentucky youth deserve leadership and civic engagement opportunities like community service through 4-H because it fosters well-rounded individuals prepared to tackle tomorrow's challenges. Equipping them with leadership skills allows them to confidently navigate group projects, future careers, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. 4-H's community service aspect fosters a sense of civic responsibility, teaching them the value of giving back and making a positive local impact. These experiences cultivate well-rounded young Kentuckians who are not only effective leaders but also engaged citizens invested in the betterment of their state.
Green County 4-H provides leadership opportunities through the club framework, with youth officers mentored by caring mentors. Seventy-two youths are officers of 4-H clubs in Green County. These youth said 4-H gave them their first opportunity to practice being a leader. Over half of these youth are now leaders in other organizations like BETA and History clubs. These youth are returning as adult mentors to serve the 4-H program. Of the nine volunteers who went to 4-H Summer camp, all nine attended summer camp as youth and were active in their 4-H clubs.
