The problem

The planning/hosting of the Quicksand Area Homemaker Meeting.

The educational program response

The Lee County Extension Homemakers have not held an Area Homemaker Meeting in over 8 years. The homemakers got together and met frequently to help plan for the Area Meeting. Many loyal, hardworking ladies, volunteered their time to help decorate, plan, set up, speak, and so much more. On the day of the meeting, the Lee County Extension Office hosted over 60 homemakers and guests. The entertainment, featuring a local band discovered by one of the homemakers, added a delightful touch to the Lee County community. Beyond the meeting, the homemakers organized the area cultural arts competition, ensuring a showcase of local talent. Attendees were treated to delicious food, further enhancing the sense of togetherness. The Homemakers also elected to do a fundraiser at this event to help raise money to send a homemaker to the State Meeting. They did this by having a silent auction and raising over $100.

Program impact or participant response.

Many Homemakers had to get out of their comfort zones and take on new roles due to illnesses occurring just days before the meeting. The Lee County Vice President took on multiple speaking roles at the meeting.

Homemakers met 6 times before the meeting to help prepare which was an increase in meetings.

Homemakers planned everything from start to finish.

-"It was great to see everyone in our area and have a nice meal with them and enjoy some great entertainment" -Area President
