Major Program: Beekeeping
Plan of Work: Develop Individuals for Volunteer Roles and Leadership Positions
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Beekeeping is becoming more popular in Bullitt County. Beginning beekeepers in our area need mentors and support to be successful. The Bullitt County Beekeepers Association leadership is consistently providing opportunities for new beekeepers in our community to become involved and gain experience. They provide monthly beekeeping lessons and hands on demonstrations with seasoned local experts. Individual leaders partner up with new beekeepers to assist and provide support to help them become successful.
This year the Beekeepers Association, partnering with the Kentucky State beekeeper's Association and 4 other counties provided a beekeeping 101 Four part series for new beekeepers. Reaching 43 new beekeepers in this region. Additionally, leadership participated in beekeeping programming at 3 local elementary schools and at the Public Libraries Kick Off to Summer Reading Program. Reaching approximately 1736 youth.
Through polling the participants in the Beekeeper's Association it has been recorded that 6 new beekeepers in Bullitt County were actively mentored by leadership in a one on one mentorship, 13 other new beekeepers reported benefiting from monthly programming. 5 beekeeper's reported a reduction of lost hives over winter due to knowledge they gained at our beekeeping programs and 32 beekeepers reported gaining income from selling their honey in Bullitt County.
