Plan of Work: Support Wellness of Washington County Citizens and Community

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Extension Agents are challenged to reach the public using a number of diverse communication methods to provide research-based information through Cooperative Extension. In addition to in-person programming, newspaper articles, social media posts, newsletters, and radio segments, the Washington County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and Horticulture Agent now produce radio tips of the week. Family and Consumer Sciences radio tips are composed by the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, using information from news releases by Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Specialists. Tips cover information in all Family and Consumer Sciences Initiatives: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices; Nurturing Families; Embracing Life as You Age; Securing Financial Stability; Promoting Healthy Homes and Communities; Accessing Nutritious Food; and Empowering Community Leaders. The radio station covers Nelson, Marion, and Washington Counties, reaching approximately 10,000 listeners weekly. The goal of the radio tips is not only to provide reliable information, but also to promote the Cooperative Extension Service overall. The Washington County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent will continue to produce radio tips and serve the community through Cooperative Extension.
