Planning Unit: Franklin County CES

Major Program: Beef

Plan of Work: Developing informal and formal leadership skills for youth and adults

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

For several years the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association Board had expressed a desire to create a Junior Chapter. Not only to retain youth in the production of cattle and advocates of beef consumption but as future leaders of their organization.

The Secretary took the initiative to found the Jr. Association and enlisted 3 more advisors. After recruiting over 30 interested founding members and hosting several educationally fun events the advisors focused on monthly education opportunities, service functions and networking events. Most activities are coordinated with Extension and involve Extension events or are facilitated by the office.

Jr. Cattlemen is open to 4-H age youth regardless of their farming background or experience.

Now in it's second year, 12 FCJCA members will be attending the KJCA Conference in Lexington. Over the past year they have toured several farming operations and stockyards as well as the State Fair, NAILE
