The problem: 

4th grade teachers expressed interest in cow eye dissection to help solidify the following Core Content Standards:

4-LS1-2. Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brains, and respond to the information in different ways. Emphasis is on systems of information transfer.

4-PS4-2. Develop a model to describe that light reflecting from objects and entering the eye allows objects to be seen. Examples of models could include diagrams, analogies, and physical models that illustrate light reflecting from objects and entering the eye.

The educational program response:

Youth and Adults will develop skill to improve quality of life. Cow Eye Dissection in school enrichment programs. Special Interest workshop dissecting a cow eye, heart, and kidney. 

The participants/target audience: 

Youth in 4th grade; Youth 9-18

Fayette County Public Schools

Program impact or participant response:

184 total youth participated in 3 school enrichment dissection programs. 21 youth and 10 parents participated in workshop dissection program.
