Plan of Work: Fixating the Focus on the Local Food Supply

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In the heart of the countryside, against the backdrop of the serene Buck Ridge Farms, a remarkable success story unfolded with the enchanting event, "Yuletide Harvest Haven at the Barn." This festive gathering not only celebrated the spirit of the season but also addressed a challenge faced by local artisans and craftsmen – the lack of opportunities to showcase their talents.

Recognizing this need, the Cooperative Extension Service stepped in with a thoughtful response. The Barn at Buck Ridge Farms became the canvas for a winter wonderland, providing a space for local small businesses, artisans, and craftsmen to display their Yuletide creations. The farm's owners, in collaboration with the Cooperative Extension Service, also opened doors to other sponsors who joined in supporting this community-driven initiative.

The participants, ranging from skilled artisans to enthusiastic crafters, found a welcoming platform at Yuletide Harvest Haven. The event aimed to appeal to a diverse target audience, drawing in families, friends, and individuals passionate about handmade and locally crafted goods. The charming barn setting, adorned with festive decorations and the scent of evergreen, created an inviting atmosphere for all.

The impact of the program was felt both economically and socially. Revenues soared past the impressive $110,000 mark, exceeding initial expectations. Several vendors, previously limited in their exposure, sold out of their unique Yuletide creations, marking a significant achievement for the local economy. Beyond financial success, the participant response was overwhelmingly positive, with families bonding over hands-on crafting activities, local food vendors enjoying increased patronage, and the community embracing a newfound holiday tradition.
